African American Artists: 1859 to the Present Teaching Poster Set
This set includes works of art in the Museum's collection made by African-American artists from the Civil War through the Civil Rights movement. Featuring the works of both known and anonymous artists, the set contains the Portrait of James Baldwin by Beauford Delaney seen here, as well as the four other images listed below.
Background materials on the reverse of each poster are designed for use by teachers and students, and provide maps, art projects, interdisciplinary connections, and information about related artists such as Faith Ringgold and Syd Carpenter.
